What does "Idle Time" in the profiler mean

What does "Idle Time" in the profiler mean

I've been trying to debug some performance issues in my FPS tutorial, and it seems the biggest performance hog is "Idle Time" according to the profiler. It always takes at least 90% of the frame time.

So does anyone know what "Idle time" is? I've been banging my head against the wall trying to increase performance with no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

AFAIK idle time is in reference to the engine waiting so it can hit the FPS target. It's just the time that it's not doing anything.

That is what I originally thought, but I was not sure looking at the profiler results.

So now I know: I need to reduce the other processes to increase idle time, which should make performance better. (Or the performance issue is something the profiler doesn't track... But that is another problem for another day)
