Ok, so I tried it. I love all the art and the effects. The character sprites and animation look good, I like the water and the shaders and everything, very nice. The size of the level and characters seem right, so the art and design seem about finished, or at least near final quality.
So it's very good, but there are some big issues. It would help if there was music. But that is easy to add. Also, I use a 21:9 ultrawide monitor and the game was off to the left instead of centered. So you might have to adjust it so it is always in the center regardless of the aspect ratio.
But the major problem for me was the physics. On the first level, the character was getting caught on the floor all the time and stuck. Sometimes not even able to jump. Even on the second level, I found the movement and jumping physics did not feel right. Like the character maybe moved too fast (in relation to the sprite animation) and the jumping did not seem physically accurate (or even believable for a cartoon). It just didn't really feel that fun to move. It needs a lot of work, but the design is really good, it could be a popular game, but you have to get the controls down.
Anyway, this is a 2D platformer test project I've been working on for a few months here and there. I was never going to post about it, it's just for me to test Godot (I have about 100 of these tests) but I think it would help you. Feel free to steal the code, or at least get some ideas of what I'm talking about. I've tweaked this a lot and I feel it is very fun, even with placeholder graphics and not a real level.
