how to put assets into game

i figured this summer i would try to make a small game because i like to have a project to work on. in all of the tutorials they make a new folder add the assets to it and then in godot there is a drop down on the folder that shows the images in it but there isn't a drop down for me

shorter explanation: cant access assets in the engine plz help
