Okay, so I've been playing some retro games, and I think I have a better idea of the style I want to go with. I think I want to start with 2 games, one 2D and one 3D. The 2D one will be flat vector art, similar to Out of this World or Another World. I noticed this was one of the most popular games for a long time, and no one has attempted to make something like it. The art would also be simple and the game would not be too long. Still have to figure out the theme and story, but I want something weird, no dialog or text, kind of confusing. I was thinking apocalypse theme, no zombies, and not hard-core survival, but it might have those elements. I really liked the game I Am Alive, so I might go with a similar theme.

For the 3D game, I want to make a sort of 3/4ths overhead RPG style game, in the vein of Shadowrun for Genesis / Mega-Drive. So it would be in the future, you could go on hacking missions, break into corporate offices, sell guns or drugs on the street, get cyberware upgrades, etc. I don't think I will incorporate the fantasy / magic aspects of Shadowrun, it would be more realistic, in the near future. This was the Genesis game (note, it did not have good graphics, even at the time, but the game was amazing).

However, I want to go with a sort of 3D sprite sheet look, similar to Die Hard Arcade.

But with the lighting style of the PSP, like on Tekken 6.

I do want to work on a high end 3D game at some point, but I think it would be a good idea to start on some easier projects and get them out there first. One, I can get more experience with shipping and finishing something, marketing, etc. And I can start generating some income to hopefully fund a larger project. And no, this isn't the million dollar idea, that is a longer term thing. I'm trying to finish these games as quick as possible. Any thoughts?
