If you think you can do better, and I'm sure you totally can, build something. Just don't put any weird copyrights on the content as I still want to make a life sim. 🙂

But yeah, everyone there is outraged.

I've been keeping an eye on it. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm left with the impression that they're crooks.

The idea is that the game would be a constructor type of game, where users would be free to create their own content supplementing and expanding the game. This is the only way to compete with a huge corporation spoiling and tainting good game ideas. And such a concept is basically incompatible with "any weird copyrights on the content".

The company that should make a Sims clone is IOI.
Just remove the weapons from a Hitman map and you've got half a Sims game already running.

I completed Metro Exodus when it came out. Afterwards I thought "Wait a sec, I have a 2080TI and I forgot to turn on the RTX stuff!"
I enabled it and went back to an earlier save to test. Ran fine, but wasn't different enough to make me replace the whole game right then.

Hmm, now I've got an urge to replace Exodus again (third time). But first I need to replay 2033 and Last Light (already many times). And before that I need to finish Hitman 3 (first time, on the first mission).

As long as it has good game play, I would be perfectly okay with it- even if it had low quality graphics.

There are just too many games, honestly. I have over 1,000 games in my Steam library, I'll never catch up. Playing Wolfenstein II right now. Plan to do a replay for Bioshock and Tomb Raider soon.

Well, I ran out of time and couldn't take the test. But the new term started yesterday, so I am starting again.

I was so glad when I was finally able to stop giving exams. I hated doing exams, I hated writing exams, I REALLY hated marking exams. Luckily my college got rid of all of them.

There's an interesting thread on slashdot concerning copyright violation, and the reasons people keep doing it. Sadly, most of it comes down to disgust with corporate greed -- artists getting a tiny share, distributors fighting over all the media, and ridiculous copyright terms.

Personally, I don't pirate movies because the movies all seem to suck lately. Come to think of it, that applies to tv and music as well. 🙂

So, I really loved The Matrix Resurrections, and I bought it 5 times legally. I got the 4K Blu-Ray, on HBO Max, Amazon Prime, Vudu, and YouTube. However, I am unable to watch it on my computer at all, because I use Linux and a VPN for security, and they treat me like a criminal. So what did I do? I downloaded the bootleg copy so I could watch it. That seems only fair, as I have spent over $100 and can't even watch the product I legally paid for. Maybe if the movie studios wanted to actually fight piracy they can start by not treating paying customers like criminals.

I think this recession will be more serious than predicted and video game sales won't start back up for years. People will play online games like mmo's because they are basically cheap entertainment and most people will barely be able to afford the necessities. We've had an accommodating federal reserve for the last 3 or 4 decades and a government that actually believes deficits don't matter. Not just the US, but most of the world. Now there is no way out, it's a balancing act between high inflation and recession caused by raising interest.

Maybe it will be good. People will finally have time to play all those games they bought on sale and never played.

This doesn't work. This is not something I'd ever even think about until I started teaching programming. Just thought I'd share. Kindof stupid I know.

Default arguments can only be trailing (meaning they have to be the last arguments, not the first).

# this is fine
func test(a, b = 1)

# this doesn't work
func test(a = 1, b)

Because in the second case, there is no way for the compiler to know if test(10) means set a = 10 and b = null or a = 1 and b = 10, so it just doesn't work.

Exactly. Even more so in a language with relaxed typing.

Haven't seen the latest Matrix yet, being somewhat repelled by the reception so far. The first one was exceptional, in 1999.

I binged on the The Persuaders on youtube. I mean the Curtis/Moore tv series from the 70s. If people need to relax between lines of code or game levels. Also beautiful cars in there, in comparison to the SUV tanks of late.

Okay, I got Matrix 4 working on YouTube on my main computer. It didn't work at launch I thought, but it seems to be okay now, even with the VPN. However, it's only 1080p. I need to use a Google TV to see in 4K HDR. I guess that's an acceptable compromise. I also watched John Wick 3, that movie was amazing. They are kind of cheesy but awesome action.

Have you seen Nobody? Basically John Wick but he has a family. The bus scene is awesome.
